These weather systems vary from year to year, and are largely driven by changes in large-scale atmospheric circulation which can result in extreme weather events such as fires, floods or drought. Australia’s weather is influenced by several key climate drivers including:

• El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO)
• Southern Annular Mode (SAM)
• Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO)
• Australian Monsoon
